In December 2016 CLED tested the reading skills of 87 students from class 3 to 6 of Saint Peters School with a self- designed, not standardised screening tool. Most of the children showed difficulties in letter identification, letter sounds and phonemic awareness compared to the years they spend at school. That’s why CLED started with the second school term in January-April 2017 three reading classes at this school. The children were grouped depending on their test results into three groups. Every group has been taught once a week after school. Depending on their skills, the children were trained in sound identification, phonological awareness and basic reading.
