Educators Training Project
As a mandate for the implementation of inclusive education in Ghana from September, 2015 learners of all abilities and backgrounds are given right to be served in the regular school classrooms.
In addition the Sustainable Development Goal 4 Target 4.C: By 2030, substantially increase the supply of qualified teachers, including through international cooperation for teacher training in developing countries, especially least developed countries and small-island developing States.
In order for quality inclusive education to be provided to learners with learning differences and special needs, investment is needed in training workshops for education managers, head teachers, and teacher on learning differences, special educational needs and inclusive practices.
Therefore CLED Ghana
- Trains head teachers and teachers in identification of children with learning differences and special needs, and research-based pedagogical approaches for teaching young people with special needs in inclusive classrooms.
- Conducts workshops for education managers, head teachers and teachers on Ghana’s Inclusive Education Policy and Universal Design for Learning.
- Develops and distributes toolkits to educators and schools for managing young people with learning differences and special needs as well as adaptations for inclusive education.
Community Engagement Program
Well-informed and collaborative community members are one of the driving forces for quality life and inclusive education for young people with learning differences and special needs.
Also for quality inclusive education to be accepted and provided to young people with learning differences and special needs, investment is needed in collaborating community agencies, community leaders, parents and the media in the community to support and promote inclusive services as well as attitudes in all aspects of community life for young people with learning differences and special needs.
Therefore CLED Ghana
• Runs radio talk shows, press releases and visit churches to create public awareness about learning differences, disability issues, and Ghana’s Inclusive Education Policy to promote inclusive attitudes and behaviors.
• Organizes sensitization workshops for community leaders, community agencies, the media and parents on learning differences, special needs, inclusive education and their roles.
• Collaborates with parents and guardians to create community-based self-help groups and support systems for parents to call for help or service coordination.
• Conducts surveys, case studies and share findings with stakeholders.
