School Support Services
As a result of the implementation of inclusive education in Ghana from September, 2015 learners of all abilities and backgrounds are given right to be served in the regular school classrooms. For those learners with learning differences and special needs the school curriculum and resources may present certain challenges that require adaptations to meet the needs of eligible children.
Also according to the Sustainable Development Goal 4: Target 4.A: investment is needed in building and upgrading education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all.
Therefore CLED Ghana
- Collaborates with schools to adapt school facilities-building, furniture, lighting, toilets and urinals, teaching-learning materials and provide assistive devices, to meet the needs of all children with learning differences and special needs.
- Engage and discuss with Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and School Management Committee (SMC) to understand and support inclusive education practices.
- Collaborates with schools to offer screening, diagnostic and ecological assessment, intervention or referral and service coordination.
- Through international and local cooperation trains and deploys volunteers to local schools to provide Individualized Learning Assistance (ILA), teacher in-service training and support in adapting the school curriculum to meet the needs of eligible children with special needs.
